Our Philosophy

Guided by student curiosity…

We focus on whole-person development and believe STEAM and outdoor learning inspires students to find their passion, explore their interests, and discover their full potential.

We are dedicated to STEAM education because it creates critical thinkers, increases interdisciplinary competency, and enables the next generation of innovators. We focus on whole-person development and inspire every student to be a life-long learner, independent thinker, and future leader.

21st Century Skills

At iGen, our goal is to foster a learning experience focused on 21st-century skills, including the 4 C’s: Communication, Creativity, Collaboration, and Critical thinking. Students work on challenges and projects in the realm of STEAM and have the opportunity to work together to brainstorm, design, create, test, and problem-solve to find creative and innovative solutions. Through this process, students build important life and career skills, including negotiating, conflict management, teamwork, and leadership, which prepares them for their future success.

STEAM

Our science, mathematics, engineering, technology, and arts programs provide optimal early learning environments for students to work together on real problems, build their collaboration skills, use their creativity to generate innovative ideas, assess situations, and reflect critically on learning experiences and processes. Students engage with our STEAM programs through hands-on and experimental methods, and they are taught to analyze and evaluate evidence, arguments, claims, and beliefs, and ask clarifying questions to come to their own conclusions or find innovative new ways of doing things. Students learn to develop cognitive skills through STEAM application and achieve advanced levels of comprehension which positions them for future success in their lives and careers.

Growth Mindset

Lifelong learning requires a growth mindset. Our STEAM and outdoor learning programs allow students to find their passion, explore their interests, and discover their full potential. Only when they are perusing their passions will their hunger for knowledge be fueled, so we empower them to discover their passions and continuously foster that ongoing learning. Our students learn to take responsibility for their future, seek out opportunities to learn, and fuel their passions through projects.

“Our goal is to inspire every student to be a life-long learner, independent thinker, and future leader”

Global Citizenship

In today’s world, developing a globalized perspective is imperative for learning and teaching. Global thinking, the interconnectedness of all humans and nature, and the impacts of our actions – big and small – are concepts we approach through hands-on learning, dialogue and listening self-reflection, and engaged action.

Applied Learning

Using 21st-century skills development frameworks, our programs focus on applied learning both inside and outside the classroom. Students engage with course materials through outdoor education, experimentation, collaboration, and exploration to pursue knowledge and understanding of complex processes and concepts. Our project-based approach is driven by student inquiry and has real-world applications to position students for academic and career success.

Interdisciplinary Competency

Students gain literacy skills in the realms of science, mathematics, arts, engineering, and technology. This focus on interdisciplinary competency results in students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process
